I usually take some time on Sundays to actually “play” in the gym – Sundays are open gym days and when I’m not practicing for something specific (like a medley in a contest), I usually just go in to do mobility work and have some fun. I don’t do anything heavy (unless I’m supposed to) or anything taxing since I have to be back at the gym at 6am on Monday. Therefore, I deem it “Sunday Funday”.

I LOVE training the way that I do but sometimes I miss doing things I don’t get to do very often – snatches, handstands, etc. Even though I haven’t done “Crossfit” in probably close to a year, I still DO train at a Crossfit gym and really like some of the more traditional Crossfit movements. I’ve always loved the rings and will play on rings any chance I get whether it’s practicing skin-the-cats, doing inversions, knees-to-elbows, or simply knocking out a round or two of kipping pull ups. I actually prefer doing a lot of movements on rings because it feels a bit better on my shoulders – plus, they’re just FUN.

When Rep Fitness, a fitness equipment company based in Colorado, contacted me about reviewing some of their gear, I immediately knew I wanted a set of rings. I was planning to put them in my house but unfortunately, it didn’t work out so I went ahead and brought them to the gym where they’ve gotten LOTS of use both by me and everyone else. The rings are really high quality and very smooth – not at all rough like some cheaper rings can be. They’re also incredibly sturdy and overall, I was really impressed.

I’m a firm believer in that you shouldn’t do things you hate, especially in the gym. Sure, I do a whole lot of things I’m not particularly head-over-heels in love with because they’re required for my sport, but I would be a miserable person if I wasn’t able to have fun with my training. Luckily, strongman training is pretty ridiculously fun and having my “Sunday Funday” keeps me in high spirits. If you’re not having fun, you probably need to be doing something else.
